PRP Therapy Treatment Revisited – My 3 Month Update

by Y on February 10, 2010

It’s been 3 months today since I received my PRP hair loss treatment with Dr. Joseph Greco last November 2009. I have been meaning to write my PRP update for quite sometime, but I wanted to wait until I was sure of what I felt my results (if any) actually were.

So rather than keep you in total suspense, I’ll start with a few self-imposed questions.

Do I think PRP Therapy has helped my hair loss? Yes
Do I think PRP Therapy has reduced my shedding? Yes
Do I think PRP Therapy has been the best thing for my hair since this entire mess started? Most Definitely
Has it done anything else? Yes, it has improved the quality and color of my hair
Will I do this again? You betcha, I’ll be on a plane within the next month for another treatment

Now with that out of the way, let me start by saying that ever since I had this done last November I have just felt better about my hair loss in general. Nothing works instantly, I know that,  but my mind was for the first time in a long time, optimistic that something positive could happen. So I essentially started to feel good right from the start, way before being able to actually tell if the PRP treatment did anything at all.  At times I have wondered whether or not my favorable results were a bit of a placebo effect, you know, all of a sudden thinking my hair is going to get better and tah dah it does. Whatever it is, my results are real, tangible and visible.

I noticed fairly quickly after receiving the treatment that my shedding reduced DRAMATICALLY, and since then it has gone up and down, but far less than before having the treatment done. My hair also just started to FEEL better and LOOK better. It seemed like some vibrance and pigmentation returned to my hair as well. After living with hair loss for 10 years, the color of my hair had faded as the miniaturization progressed. All I can say is “Hello color, I missed you! ”

Up until this morning I knew the following things, 1) my shedding decreased 2) the color improved and 3) my hair quality improved. Then this morning I scheduled a haircut with a woman who has been cutting my hair since 2005. I sat in the chair, she clipped on the apron, spritzed my hair with the water bottle and started to part the hair down the middle. Then she just looked closely at my head, then a little closer, as she leaned in she appeared to be slightly confused. With that final lean towards my head she said the most wonderful words, “You Look like You Have More Hair.” What? Let me say it again for all you ladies, in case you missed it, “YOU LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE MORE HAIR.” Hot diggity dog, do my ears deceive me? Nope. She told me my hair looks thicker, and that I have tons of little baby hairs growing in all over the place. Well praise the lord and raise the roof, I have a happy dance to do.

I had to laugh because before she came over (I have my haircut at my house) my fiance said, “I bet you she is going to tell you that your hair looks thicker.” Ha! I’ll gladly take the “I told you so” on this one. He’s been telling me for over a month that he really thinks that the PRP has helped my hair loss. I felt it, I knew it, but I didn’t want to jump the gun in writing my update prematurely.

I feel confident in sharing my results now, and I hope it helps to give other women hope. I will continue to keep everyone updated as I go through more treatments.

I have been following and researching Dr. Greco’s PRP treatment for about 8 months now. my shedding had been stable for 3+ years until this past may (2009) when I began shedding like crazy again..no change in meds (first time I had stopped bcp) no change in diet, lifestyle etc. I was finally happy with my life and how I was living it then boom..of course.

anyways I have been awaiting your review, I have contacted the offices and hope to make an appointment soon. I am in Ontario, Canada so it’s quite the trip and the expense. I’m just so fearful it’s too late for me? I sent Dr. Greco recent pics, but I just wish I had have had this done 6 months ago….add on the three months u have to wait to see..at the rate I’m going I don’t know if it will even matter.

However…at this point nothing has slowed the shed (despite my changing me from diane 35 to ortho 1/35 and 25 mg of cyproterone (androcur) ). So I just feel like If i don’t do it now I will forever regret it even tho I feel I’m at the point where I need to add synthetic hair regardless..just seeing less hair coming out would help with my emotions

thanks so much for posting …you’ve given me an honest trustworthy report and the final push

all the best

Congratulations! That’s amazing. Do you mind telling us a bit of what kind of hair loss do you have? Is it hormonal? Alopecia Aertea? Lichen Planus?

And when did your hair loss start?

I really want to try this but I’d like to know more…

p.s. this is such an amazing website. Thanks for this.

I am so happy for you, I posted questions about the procedure on your original post and have been waiting your results. I did do some research and there is a hair loss clinic near where I live that was doing the same procedure, I think he might even have been trained from the doctor in Florida. I called and they said they are no longer doing the PRP because of lack of results. I was so disappointed. That said your results are encouraging and I a still open to the treatment. Are you going again soon? Have any other women contacted you that have gone forward and tried it as well? Thanks and Congrats!

Fantastic news!! Very encouraging and hopeful!

Good to hear that we are NOT out of viable options… thanks for being brave enough to test this one out. Hope it continues to work for you!

That’s great! We should get a group of ladies and fly out together. You know the way they do those Botox parties. If so, count me in.

I am considering taking the trip as well. Tell me, how long did you stay and what hotel is closest to the dr’s office? I would be flying in from New Orleans, La.

Thanks.

Continue blessings to you and the viewers.

Judy – wanted to let you know I also flew out to Tampa to have this procedure done (it’s currently been 3 weeks and so far so good). When I spoke with Dr. Greco he told me that what makes his procedure unique and proprietary from others is how he splits your blood cells from the pallets, this is how he develops the “protein matrix” described in his blog. The protein matix is not additive, but instead is develop through the splitting process. I believe this one of the reasons why the office near your home stopped this procedure (due to lack of results). Based on my experience, I would definitely recommend this treatment to everyone.

Wanda – when you make your appt. the reception will forward you recommended hotels near by their offices – price range is moderate. Depending upon where you live (I live in California, so it took me a whole day in travel to Florida) I would recommend a 3 day stay, ideally the blood pallets should remain on your scalp for 24hrs before you wash it off – therefore, you should book a later flight on the day of your departure to give you enough time to leave it on your scalp and wash off in the morning.

@Gigi – I most certainly will continue to keep you updated!

@Brett – I don’t think it’s too late for you at all, I got this treatment after 10 years of continuous hair loss. I really never recommend any hair loss treatments to anyone, for several reasons, but I feel that there really is no downside to giving this a try. If it doesn’t work, you are out time and money. Not bad considering other things carry must more of a downside and those as well. It was the first thing that came along in a really long time that felt was “worth a shot.” And I’m so glad I went for it.

@Angela – Do you still have the wine? LOL Thank you girl. MUAH

@Jeaneen – I look forward to hearing about your experience and journey.

@Balding Girl – I have Androgenetic Alopecia, which is female pattern hair loss. It is hormonal hair loss. My hair loss started in 1999. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.

@Judy – I have heard that several times now, that a doctor who was performing this treatment now no longer is due to what he is saying is lack of results. Well, I don’t know about what he was doing, but I know the results I’ve received have exceeded my expectations. You can’t just go by what a few people say. It really is a personal decision and we have to weigh out the pros and cons and decide what is best for us. I have heard from several other women who have also had this done with Dr. Greco, and thus far they are pleased. I haven’t personally received any negative reports from anyone on this site.

@Julie – Hope indeed… Hope indeed!

@ Wanda – My entire trip (like Tara) was 3 days, as I was coming in from California. I flew in, checked in, slept. Then saw Dr. Greco the next day, came back to the Hotel and rested. Then the following morning, washed my hair, checked out and flew out. 🙂 Also like Tara said, the office will provide you with a list of Hotels which you can choose from.

@Tara – I’m so happy to hear you are thus far having a similar experience to mine, which is awesome! I just went for my second treatment with Dr. Greco and plan on posting about that very soon. I went before the “required” time to return because I’m neurotic and I wanted to make sure I keep the goodness in my scalp going. LOL

Hi guys, I’m arranging to get the PRP therapy done. I’d like to get an update on long-term effect from anyone that had the treatment done in 2009 or 2010… are you still experiencing good results?
