Most Pantene commercials are enough to bring any women suffering with hair loss to tears. Women with gorgeous long, thick soft hair tossing their heads while the hair perfectly cascades around them. However, recently Pantene has launched a new campaign called Pantene Beautiful Lengths. This new program encourages people to grow, cut and donate their hair to create real-hair wigs for women who’ve lost their hair due to cancer. Their video for the campaign is incredibly touching.

The responses to the video on youtube are mixed. Some people think it’s such a great idea and a moving video, while another person thinks it is wrong for Pantene to use cancer for product placement. I think that any endeavor towards building awareness to a cause and helping those in need is a worthwhile venture, regardless of what anyone thinks the motives are.

I agree with your comments…it takes one to know one as the saying goes…If you have hair loss, then you can empathize and people are so quick to judge something they know very little about. I would rather have hair loss as a “personal flaw” than ignorance any day. The companies doing this are noble and awesome…its the ones that don’t join in on the hair loss campaign that worry me…especially the drug and insurance companies…

Hey Julie -

I certainly wish there were more companies making an effort to increase women’s hair loss awareness, instead of pharmaceutical companies spending a forture selling women on the fact that they can have “shorter periods” with their new birth control pill. What? How is that healthy, shorter periods?

I look forward to seeing what comes of this new Pantene hair loss campaign.

Wow, I’m so glad I found these sites. I have long beautiful hair and it’s been falling out like crazy the last few months. I was freaking out thinking I had cancer or I was just going bald. I’ve been using pantene blond expressions, I usually use herbal essence, but I thought I’d try something new. I can’t believe with all these complaints that pantene is able to continue putting out these hazardous products.
