Applying a Lace Front Wig

by Y on September 17, 2010

So I can across these amazing videos on YouTube made by MonroeZombieDoll, who is my new hero… she is absolutely amazing and I’m so thankful she made these videos of herself applying her lace front wig. I came across having a much better understanding of what goes into the process, it definitely helps to demystify things a bit.

How I Apply My Lace Front Wig

eHow.com has some articles on the lace front wig application process as well:

How To Apply a Lace Front Wig

One thing I had no clue about is what is written in the final step:

Once you have the wig on your head, it may be tempting to style and comb it. Don’t. Unless stated otherwise, both tape and glue adhesives have to cure for about 24 to 48 hours before any excessive pulling on the hair can occur. If you follow the rules, the bond should stay strong for a good while.

I’m sure once you are a pro at the lace wig application process you eventually develop your own technique and figure out what does and does not work for you.

This just goes to show you that this can be done a variety of ways-experiment until you find the way that works best for you!
Very interesting that she applies hers from back to front-I always apply from front to back. I also apply the adhesive directly to the lace, not my head. I find that if you don’t apply it to the lace you may very well have areas of the lace that do not have tape on them-for me, at least. That has happened to me and I’ve ended up going back over the hairline with teeny tiny pieces of tape later.
Great video!

I love this girl. What I love is that she’s generous with her knowledge and experience AND totally relaxed and normal about this whole process. Way to go! And very cute when the wig is on. I would never know.

Ms. Monroe,

You are precious and completely unselfish.

I watched your tapes with great interest. I’m hoping the new break through in hair loss will come through before I have to use a wig. If I do finally have to use a wig, I hope I will be as gracious and sweet as you are.

Am concerned having a lace front wig will cause even more loss to my real hair. Can I swim in it? I now live near Puerto Vallarta and in summer, sweat a lot, so my balding spots show even more than usual. I have questions that the video just doesn’t really cover.
