Follea, Me and a Wig Makes Three – Snips & a Wig Blocking Demonstration

by Y on August 23, 2012

Here is the video footage that was taken this past Tuesday whilst I was at Follea getting my lifestyle wig cut-in. This video provides a much better view than my previous one of Anya’s new haircut and also includes a “How To Properly Block Your Wig” clip. The importance of blocking your wig (attaching it to a head) prior to washing it is to prevent inversion (hair coming through the inside of the cap) and also to make sure you don’t tear your cap. We’re learning together, because I really didn’t know why I was suppose to put the wig on a styrofoam head before washing it, but now I do. 🙂

Hello y,
It’s your groupie Lina 🙂
thank you for the instruction, I will be washing my wig for the first time this weekend! Oooh nervous…
Love your hair and your smiles.
Follea is going to me my holy grail of wigs and hopefully one day I will be able to afford one, but for now the one I have is so much better than what was sitting on top of my head anyway but fails in comparison to your lovely lady. But, chin up… I’m going to rock a wig, I just decided 🙂

hugs
xxoo

You and Anya look gorgeous! Vicka is ahhmazing. You’re so lucky to be near her! I might see a trip to LA in my future! 🙂

I actually have an appointment next week to look at some Follea hair at a local retailer in Houston. I am super excited!! Based on your experience with Follea and wig wearing, I had a few questions for you.

Does the length of your natural hair have to coincide somewhat with the length of the wig? My hair now goes to the bottom of my neck, but I’d like to wear at least the Medium length Lifestyle wig.

Ok, give it to me straight on Natalia vs Anya. Which one is more like your every day go-to wig? Is it still Natalia? My budget will likely only allow me to purchase one wig at this time so I need to choose wisely!

Is Natalia cut or did she come with layers? Are you planning on getting her cut?

Do you straighten or do any styling to your wigs at home or just mostly let them air dry after washing and put ’em on and go?

As always, thanks for sharing the videos. I love them!

PS- Are there any plans for a WHLP conference of sorts in the future? 🙂 Was chatting with some other ladies about it in the Network and there is definitely interest.

Love, Love, Love! Wonderful to see you so joyful! Thank you!
I would love an “Anya” & I read that Follea will give discounts on volume. I’d be down for that and I’m in L.A. Any ideas how to get a few ladies together? Or shall we just call BH and ask for “Anya”? XO

Another great video !!
I called Follea today and talked to Sara. So, SO nice and helpful ! I told her that I found out about them from you and that you are the best advertising they could ever have.
(Hopefully there will be a freebie or discount in your future!haha)

Of course, they didnt have anywhere in this entire God-Forsaken state (AL) I live in 10 mos a yr. But she told me about a location in Atlanta and even said she’d meet me there if I let her know when (WAY above the call of duty. How nice is that?)
She also told me there was a place in my hometown in Philly, where I live in the summer, so I had two legitimate choices 😀

Almost more importantly, she looked at the website of a place here I was considering and she politely, but honestly, told me it didnt look good at all. They see so much of this business, they can tell the ones that take advantage of desperate women. I suspected this just looking at their site but was glad for her opinion.

Now I just have to FIGHT OFF whatever this force is that keeps me in this quicksand and drive to Atlanta. So many exits to chicken out and U-turn…hmm..maybe I should fly. haha

Idk when this will happen, but knowing that place is there, and then another in my hometown this summer, is a little security blanket I can hold for today 😀

Thank you again and again! After all the advice of family, and all the countless Drs…who knew a complete stranger would help me most. XOXO

Seriously? A volume discount? I would be soooooo interested. How many women and what kind of discount? Y, you are on the board, do you know? Or should we call? Gee, I think my voice has gone up an octave, just thinking about the possibility 🙂

Thanks you for all the great comments and feedback!

@Lina – Good luck with your wiggy washing, I’m sure you’ll do great with it, it’s really easy. I’m so glad to hear you are rocking the wig! Hope you’re enjoying some wine/oatmeal/ice cream 🙂 Let me know how the washing goes!

@Christine – Vicka is amazing, she’s supa fab. Where in Houston are you going to be visiting? I look forward to hearing about your experience there. How exciting!! I think if you’re hair is at the bottom of your neck it should integrate fine on the lifestyle medium length wig just fine. This is something I’ve been pondering myself because I plan on getting my hair cut several inches, but I’m wondering how short it can be without poking out in an odd way from the front. You’ll see in my videos if you look carefully where my natural hair is showing it is the shorter hair in the front, almost like a reverse layer LOL But I think your length hair would be fine.

So Natalia vs. Anya, oh my gosh, you’re asking me to choose between my girls? How can I pick? Oh dear… I fluctuate between the wig I choose to wear sort of based on mood I think, short today, no… longer I think, type thing. But I would say for ease and practicality if you put my feet to the fire or shall I say wigs to the fire, and said “CHOOSEEEEE” I’d save Natalia’s life. LOL Surprised? My answer is a result of me coming from a place of having had short hair for soooo long as a result of dealing with my hair loss. I’ve been progressively making my own hair shorter and shorter and shorter to help make it look fuller. So I think in getting a wig it’s best to get something that is closest to what you are used to. If a person is used to the long hair, then I’d say Anya’s the better fit. I like shorter type hair and Natalia isn’t even that short, I’ve had my bio hair way above the shoulders many times. She’s a perfect length to me, not too long, not to short. But you need to pick what suits you the best and you should take your time in making that choice, don’t feel like you have to get the wig THAT day, maybe think about it if you aren’t sure, like you said, you do need to choose wisely! Having said all that Anya’s been getting a lot of wear time and Natalia’s been hanging in the bathroom with Mila saying “Where’s OUR wine b*tch?” 🙂

Natalia came just as you see her in my videos, the washing video shows a lot of the back of her since it shows the back of my head most of the time. She does have a layer there that is how she comes. I don’t have the exact specs but I think she’s 15″ top to tip and the layer around 11″ maybe. Something like that. I don’t know if I’ll get her cut, maybe one day or not… Just works great as is, but then again I always love my wigs more after the cut, so.. who knows. But for now I don’t plan on get her cut-in.

99.9% of the time I wash my wigs and hang them upside down and that’s it. I enjoy the tousled hair look. I spent the last zillion years it seems flat ironing my crappy thin hair, that I like having the hair to just let be as it is. There have been a few times I have flat ironed Natalia though. The only wig I don’t dry upside down is Mila, reason being she naturally has more volume and lift than the other girls (that maybe as a result of her being processed) and I don’t want her to look overly poofy, so she dries upright.

WHLP conference… who knows, maybe one day. I never thought I’d be wearing a wig, let alone making videos wearing them, so anything is possible I’d say 🙂

@Jan Scott – I’m so glad the videos are calming for you! yay!

@Lula -Aww thanks, so glad you like the video! To my knowledge Follea doesn’t have a volume discount program, but I wanted to double check on that so I did inquire a little while ago and I am correct, there is nothing like that available at this time.

@phillygrl – So glad you had a great conversation with Sara, very sweet of her to offer to meet you at the salon in Atlanta! I’m glad you found out some locations to keep in mind for whenever you are ready to go out and about and take a peek at what’s out there. I am king chicken so I know how hard it is to just even pick up a phone to make an appointment to get to a place. But the most important thing is that you are thinking about it, knowing it could be an option and not letting go of wanting something more for yourself.

@Lina – Hello again LOL – I inquired about the volume question when Lula posted it, and i’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they don’t actually have anything like that. Should I pour you a glass now? sugar in your oats?

Happy Thursday!

XOXO

I’m going to a place called Ricky Knowles Hair & Wellness. I emailed Follea and this is the place they recommended as their preferred local retailer for Houston. I didn’t feel overly excited looking at Ricky’s website, but it looks like a family (husband-wife) owned salon and they appear to be super friendly and understanding, which is really important to me given this is my FIRST time going to look at wigs. I’ll def let you know how it goes.

Also- I emailed an independent Folla Rep, Carmen, who is the Texas Rep for Peggy Knight’s team. She is planning a trip to Houston in early Sept, so depending on how things go next week at Ricky’s I may meet with her in Sept as well. I’m not really sure on the difference between ordering from a Retailer vs Rep (if there is one). I just want to find something that looks natural that I feel comfortable wearing.

If all else fails, I’ll come to LA and see Vicka, or go to NYC and see Flora. I could use a vacay anyways! 🙂

Love the Video again! How do you find out where Folla reps are located? I am in RI and so far I can only see myself going to flora since it is a few hours away but really love your hair and how it looks so natural! This is when I really wish I has straight hair! So much easier, But I love my curly hair! 😉

@Christine – Isn’t it crazy, but we do judge people based on their website! But you really can’t go by that, I’ve seen snappy looking sites only to find that sometimes the people behind it had snappy crappy attitudes too LOL For me the most important thing in going to a hair replacement place is comfort, I personally don’t need the pizzaz of anything when it comes to this, I just want to work with someone patient, and understanding and be in a place that is private”ish”. Something that is just comfortable to be in. I look forward to hearing about your experience with them, and hearing your thoughts on the Follea hair.

I don’t think there is much of a difference between ordering from Carmen or Ricky, it’s wherever you feel most comfortable, and with whom you feel most comfortable with. It’s my understanding that those that are reps for Peggy Knight (who is a rep for Follea) actually come to your home. So they are like mobile reps. I like the in-home thing, I might have opted for something like that. But a welcoming comfortable salon is just as good.

Flora was on my short list of places to hit in search of my wig, had the appointment and everything, but cancelled once I found Natalia.

@Mycurlyhair – If you call the number on the Follea website they can assist you in finding a rep in your area, or the closest one to your area. I’ve always loved curly hair, my mom has really curly hair and always thought she was so lucky. My hair was super straight growing up then it got super frizzy when it started falling out. I think you should check out several places in search of that curly wig, find what suits you best because that’s what you’ll be most willing to accept and happiest with.

XOXO

I have been a lurker on this blog for a long time. I finally got the courage to have a consultation for a wig or toppette. So the Follea rep drove to my home which was 10 hours away. She fits the topper on me and I look in the mirror and hate it. Looked so wiggy! She tells me that the only way for it not to look that way is if she styles it and she can’t style it until I buy it. I could not even see a part in the toppette. So thinking maybe the wig will be better, I try that on. Way worse. Completely wiggy looking. The rep seemed irritated by me saying it looked wiggy. I’m sorry but I will not pay 2k for a wig that I will not wear. She was not very helpful with my concerns. I should have known better because I could tell over the phone she didn’t have the best personality and then she comes to my home without a topper or wig on herself which looked like she could use helper hair. You would think a rep would want to sell sell sell and displaying a product helps. She told me previously she owned a wig or toppette and still did not wear one yet she’s trying to sell me it?! Strange
I picked Follea because they look so good on you Admin, but looks like I am going to need to find another avenue.
I had finally taken the leap and feel like I took 3 steps back instead of one step forward. I’m so discouraged now that I may not ever be able to find something suitable. ????

Hi, I can tell you from my experience, you need to go and try on human hair wigs. I bought a custom topper,1k, don’t wear it. Had a consult with a woman that charged me 35 dollars and tried to sell me 2 wigs at one time,4k. I went to a hair event and met a bunch of companies that wanted to help me. I bought a human hair wig, haven’t picked it up yet. It looked really good on.
