Hello,

I had a question regarding body hair loss and regrowth. I've been loosing hair on and off for the past 5 years. I am 39 years old. All of my blood work (from a military doc) has come back negative except for low iron. So I've been taking an iron supplement prescribed by the doctor for the past month. I'm also using Rogaine, but just in the front area of my hair, as recommended by my doctor. The last two weeks I've noticed that the hair on my arms, which was completely gone before, is now back. One arm has definitely more hair than the other. What are your thoughts? Could it be taking the iron supplements? I also noticed that I got a lot of hair in the area where I've been using Rogaine, but also on my forehead and temples and even a bit down my cheeks. I do sometimes have the Rogaine spill and it touches my forehead (which I wipe off). I'm confused and surprised with what is happening. Meanwhile, hair fall out is still a lot and constant during the day. I also have an itchy scalp. I will consult my doctor, but military doctors are slow to switch to any new treatment or recommend more testing. I also went to a dermatologist who insists I have a lot of hair and that maybe the iron deficiency is to blame for the fall out. She also said the itchy scalp if because of dryness and recommended olive oil. Please any advice is helpful at this point. I especially hate having the itchy scalp and the hair fall out--I hate washing my hair and even touching it.

Thank you Robin, this is very inspiring. Certainly more than I was hoping for on my google search for some answers on hair loss in women. I am so glad to know that I am not alone in my worry and distress with this condition.

Hey guys Just a couple of notes.... The te is a deffinite for me and it seems when Iam zipped out (stressed) i go throught the shed thing. I have noticed of late I wasnt applying the rosemary ginger and lavender solution I make. This I feel has made a difference . When i faithfully applied it I did notice a decrease in the shedding. I have been told I have inherited thinning (genetic) as well as T.E. LOL about the Homer Simpson comment, Thanks for a great laugh. My youngest daughter has Mental dissabilities and at times it really is a lot to handle mentally. Coupled up with the hair loss and other pressures, it seems to aggravate the condition further. That Is why I say control the mind and keep it calm. I CAN TELL YOU THIS HAS MADE A DRAMATIC DIFFERENCE! REMEMBER YOU CANT CONTROL THOSE THINGS YOU CANT CONTROL! we will find answers, only if we stick together! I have put a beautiful bracelet together in which I intend on donating proceeds to The American Hair Loss Association for future research. I hope to keep the sales strong so we may fuel research for all who suffer. Soon They will be available to view. I will keep you guys posted. Remeber these words as you look back in history..... And in to the future... Together WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! ARE YOU THERE??? WITH ME?

Hey Robin,

Just want to let you know I'm so sorry you had a bad day yesterday, I definitely know how that goes. I am not usually able to predict my sheds only that on some of the occasions I have the hair scalp pain that occurs before. I'd say prior to my whole synthroid debacle my shedding had a pretty consistent occurrence yearly. I shed for probably 3-4 months (sometimes more) then it seemed I'd have a break for awhile and I suppose the hair regrew somewhat then it would fall out again. Progressively it would get thinner but since I always had that break where I had very little shedding the hair seemed to be able to gain some ground.

That is why I always let women know that most of the time with female pattern hair loss the hair isn't just going to fall out all at once, it goes through many many cycles. I was certain when I was 21 that at the rate I was losing hair I'd be completely bald by 30. Well I'm not, I have very thin hair but it's not like I'm sporting the homer simpson like I thought my fate was going to be.

Hope you are doing better today!

Best,
Y

Hi Robin:

I don't usually get itchy scalp but have a few times in the past. My shed seems to be somewhat normal some days and just alot more on others.

I really do feel crazy because I don't know if this is in my head and what I am experiencing is normal or not. They did say it was TE before but I don't know if it slowed or what because it all seems a blur.

I will say though if I wash my hair sometimes it will look fine but by the end of the day it looks dead and dry so I wash it again the next day and I still have a decent amount of shed. Do you have TE Robin or AGA? Also do you seem to loose more that 100 strands a day? I am not sure I do. I really feel like this is driving me insane :(.

I am sorry you had a bad day. I am as well as everyone else here if you need to vent.

Hi lisa, And shanlaree... Just wanted to say I realize how hard the day can be yesterday I had that dreaded shed thing, I always know when its gonna happen because a day or so before my hair just gets to look dead. I can literally look at them and individually pick the ones that are gonna fall out. The whole itchy scalp- pre warning and sure enough THJE SHED MONSTER STOPS IN FOR A VISIT. Do you guys go through a similar pattern? The trouble with mine is ... just as they start to come back they drop out again and well.... it just keeps going! One thing for sure though, its consistent in pattern and I have learned to accept it. I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has a similar history. Have a great day ladies! Peace!!!!!

Robin,

Yesterday I had a day where I was down in the dumps and reading your story made me feel a little bit better. You so right that the body and mind are connected but I am having a hard time trying to work on taking better care of the both.

Y, I just wanted to again say thanks for this sight. You have helped so many women in so many ways and I truly admire your strength and honesty. I just hope that I can get to the point of acceptance.

I get my first biposy March 3rd and am terrified of what they will come back with. So far TE but could be FPB who knows.
